Partners in Sport Sport provides our youth with the thrill of success; the constant opportunity to go further and higher and to be better than before. The enhanced self-esteem that comes from a positive sporting experience carries over to other activities. Sport promotes personal development as a whole and a desire to achieve. Sport and physical activity provide opportunities to succeed, whether its’ winning a boxing contest or simply participating. In sport, success can be measured by one small step, one inch, or one second at a time. The instant feed-back and the "I can do it" conviction are part of the sporting experience, particularly for young people. The role model for many of our young people is a sports leader or a coach. The community coach, volunteering hundreds of hours to developing not only sporting skills, but life skills as well, makes a difference to people’s lives. The Amateur Boxing Association of Barbados tries to make our coaches and officials "the best that they can be," so that they will provide a rewarding and enjoyable sport experience for the young people in their charge. People are our greatest resource. Sports build responsible citizens and develop tomorrow’s leaders. Truly sports make a difference! Organisations share common goals in the area of sport development and recognise the important role sports play at all levels and in the various facets of society. Partnerships between sport organisations, the governmental agencies and the private sector can make sport a contributing factor to a better society. The following "Partners In Sport" are helping to make sport a rewarding and enjoyable experience for young Barbadians: The Amateur Boxing Association of Barbados The sole competent authority in amateur boxing in Barbados. Responsible for the development of amateur boxing in all its aspects, including: enforcement of the rules of the game, co-ordination of the national boxing competitions and the development of officials. Government agencies In collaboration with the sport community, work to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of sport programmes and services to Barbadians. The corporate Sector Sports offers the Corporate Sector an integrated marketing and communications opportunity. A mutually beneficial relationship that helps to shape consumer attitudes, promotes corporate and brand awareness and fosters employee support and involvement in the cause. |
